Alans Odd Duck
2014
Alan’s Odd Duck was initially envisioned as a remembrance of one young man who was taken early in life in an auto-pedestrian accident.
This project is a way of honoring the lives of children or young adults who were taken from us too soon, and celebrates each person’s unique, odd and quirky characteristics.
We started with a drawing of a very odd duck, created by Alan when he was a young boy. Local artists and teens from the Community Prep School built on the drawing and created Alan’s Odd Duck, designed for this spot in Acacia Park. Acacia is a park frequented by all types, including kids struggling with feeling different from everyone else.
Our hope is that a young person, perhaps believing themselves odd and unaccepted – can be reminded that being unique is a good and wonderful thing.
